Birdwatching in Toubkal National Park
Toubkal National Park records around 150 bird species, from year-round mountain residents to seasonal Mediterranean migrants. Tassa Ouirgane and the Azzaden Valley sit in a prime bio-zone — lush oak and juniper forest, terraced river valleys and lower alpine scrub — making this one of the most accessible and rewarding birdwatching corridors in the High Atlas.
Maghreb endemics
Levaillant's Woodpecker, Moussier's Redstart, Tristram's Warbler, African Blue Tit
Birds found nowhere else on earth but Northwest Africa — our mature oak and juniper woodland is prime habitat.
Mountain raptors & soarers
Bearded Vulture (Lammergeier), Golden Eagle, Booted Eagle, Long-legged Buzzard, Barbary Falcon
Nesting in the deep gorges of the upper park and riding the thermals above the Azzaden slopes.
Valley & altitude specialists
Barbary Partridge, Crimson-winged Finch, Red-billed & Alpine Choughs, Blue Rock Thrush
Rocky terraces, olive groves, ridge lines and the river course through Tassa Ouirgane.
Think of us as a low-impact woodland and valley birding base. Where higher altitudes such as Oukaimeden cater strictly to alpine species, our valley offers the rare forest and scrubland endemics — Levaillant's Woodpecker, Moussier's Redstart, Tristram's Warbler — in a quieter, far less congested setting.
