The seguias — ancestral irrigation

On the afternoon walk through the fields and terraced gardens, your host explains the seguias — the hand-dug channels that have carried mountain water to every plot for generations.

  • How snowmelt from the High Atlas is captured and guided down to the village terraces.
  • The turn-taking system that shares water fairly between families, hour by hour.
  • How the channels are maintained together each season, as a village.
  • Why this water shapes what grows here — walnut, apple, peach and apricot orchards.
